The Paper Crane - Part 5

Sabine lunched at Andrew's workplace with a few of her friends which included the guy who called her 'dear'. They were having such a great time that Andrew could hear their laughter from his counter which was at the opposite end. It was not that he mind Sabine having a good time with her friends but somehow he didn't feel comfortable with the 'dear' guy sitting next to her. To make it worse, Sabine didn't seen to be bothered by the occasion hand touching by the guy. He was so distracted by what was going on at the table that he took the wrong order and gave the wrong change quite a few times. He couldn't leave his counter to find out what they were doing and that added on to his frustration.

Meanwhile, Sabine continued with the rehearsal with her 'dear'. They were putting up a skit for the coming Teachers' Day celebration and they were the husband and wife in the story. As they were reciting their lines, Andrew left his counter to deliver a order to a customer. He went past their table and almost dropped his tray when he thought he heard Sabine calling the guy next to her 'dear'. He felt being betrayed but told himself that he must have heard it wrongly as he didn't believe that Sabine would '2-time' him. But then she had been spending so much time with that guy in school and she might just have second thoughts about him. He was confused and couldn't think straight. He went back to his counter, hoping that his shift would end soon. It did but about three hours later and by then Sabine was already by herself at the table.

They walked out of the restaurant together and decided to head home as it was already past dinner time. Sabine noticed his perplexing look but chose not to ask him about it until he spoke first. Andrew who had been quiet, decided to question her about her 'dear' as they approached her block. Sabine replied that he was indeed her 'dear' and that she enjoyed being with him. Upon hearing her confession, Andrew couldn't suppress his frustration any longer.

"So that's why you haven't been giving me a straight answer whenever I asked you if you love me. Because you already have HIM !"

However, instead of explaining herself, Sabine was giggling away. She had actually said those things deliberately to see how he would react and his act of jealousy pleased her. And as if to add oil to fire, she took out a paper crane from her schoolbag. It was a slightly bigger paper crane than all those that she had previously given him. Andrew couldn't believe what she was doing. Thinking that she was still trying to console him with his favourite bird, he became so pissed off that he snatched the 'bird' from her, crushed it and threw it onto the road.

"I don't need this ! I don't need it anymore ! I don't want to see a person like you again !"

Sabine was shaken by his outburst but instead of trying to calm him down, she stepped onto the road to retrieve the paper crane.

"Why are you picking up it up? Throw it away !"

Sabine ignored him and was walking towards the middle of the road to pick up the paper crane when ...................................
